Daily Update July 31st
This morning about half of the group travelled to lake bohinj and took a scenic hike up mount Vogel. We took the cable car up beyond the clouds and hiked to a dairy farm with fresh milk and free roaming cows. We didn't know that if you get too close, the cow might start chasing you. It was quite an entertaining sight. The view from mount Vogel was one of the most beautiful views we have scene in Slovenia yet. The other half remained in the hotel and had access to the hotel's amenities and were able to relax and hang out with each other and the advisors that remained behind. Once the hiking group returned, we got together and took a trip to Lake Bled, and took a boat ride to a beautiful island where there have been 99 steps to reach the top. Our guide katja explained to us that often couples come to the island and the man carries the woman up the 99 steps and if they do, there will be no arguments in the marriage, mainly because the man wouldn't survive :p Once up the stairs, we split up into chaburot and learned with advisors. We discussed topics ranging from following the call of inspiration to the incident of Cain and Abel. We had an amazing surprise activity after chaburot- luging! It would have been bobsledding had it been snowing. Even though it was clear skies and warm it was quite the ride! Each camper got two rides, and it was an amazing experience. After mincha, I gave a shiur answering questions about reincarnation and the afterlife. Dinner was served, and we ended the night with a Miss Ugly Pageant, where the campers made one person on their team look as hideous as possible and compete against one another. It's been a jam-packed day, and tonight will be our last night in Slovenia. Tomorrow we head out to Croatia and will be spending Shabbat in Sagrev. Wishing you well, Rabbi Lashak
